Causes and treatment measures of surge of Centrifugal Water Pump

Centrifugal water pump surge refers to the phenomenon that the pump gasps in the process of conveying medium fluid. The liquid medium flows out intermittently, resulting in periodic violent vibration of pump discharge pressure and flow, which makes the pump unstable.

Cause analysis of surge of centrifugal water pump

1. The automatic exhaust valve of the centrifugal water pump fails to exhaust the air in the pump in time;

2. The inlet flow passage of the centrifugal water pump is too small, resulting in excessive flow velocity at the inlet of the centrifugal water pump, resulting in vortex at the inlet of the centrifugal water pump;

3. Local roughness at the inlet of the pump impeller is too large;

4. There are irregular and movable sundries at the inlet pipe of the centrifugal water pump, and the inlet section changes irregularly, resulting in too high flow rate at the inlet of the centrifugal water pump, resulting in cavitation of the centrifugal water pump;

5.The joint of water pump outlet pipeline is not well sealed, resulting in insufficient displacement of centrifugal water pump exhaust valve.

Surge will lead to changes in pressure and flow in the whole system of the centrifugal water pump. When cavitation occurs in the centrifugal water pump, this phenomenon is called "cavitation surge". Even if the head and flow curve are negative slope, cavitation surge will occur. For example, when the performance curve of low specific speed centrifugal water pump is in hump, it may lead to surge under unstable working conditions.
