Most sewage pumps work in the same way. The floating ball (liquid level switch) is installed on the pump in the same way as the sump pump or even the toilet tank. When the floating ball reaches a certain height, it will start the switch and start the pumping action. When the liquid lowers the floating ball to a certain point, the pump will shut down.
For many residential consumers, the main point is to decide what size pump to buy. They are typically rated at horsepower, mostly between 0.5 HP and 1.0 HP.
