Basic Skills Necessary For Centrifugal Pump Maintenance

Apr 22, 2020

1: What are the wearing parts of the centrifugal pump?

DEPUMP answer:

Bearings, shaft sleeves, impeller ring, shell ring, dynamic and static ring of mechanical seal, sealing ring, wheel rubber ring, uncoupling spring pad, etc.

2: Why should the outlet valve be closed when the centrifugal pump is started?

DEPUMP answer:

Because the flow of the centrifugal pump is equal to zero, the power is minimum. In this way, the starting current of the motor can be reduced to protect the motor.

3: How are the rated flow, head and power of the centrifugal pump specified?

DEPUMP answer:

The flow rate, head, and power when the centrifugal pump has the highest efficiency are determined as the rated flow rate, head, and power of the centrifugal pump.

4: What are the consequences of the cavitation of the centrifugal pump?

DEPUMP answer:

(1) : Generate noise and vibration;

(2) : With the reduction of flow, head and efficiency, it is even impossible to operate;

(3) : The impeller shell and blades have pitting and honeycomb damage, and even cause the shell to penetrate;

(4) : Damage to the pump shaft.

5: Will the centrifugal pump generate radial forces during flow changes during normal operation?

DEPUMP answer:

Because the change in flow rate makes the pressure distribution around the impeller uneven, a radial force acting on the impeller is formed

6: What kind of harm will the radial force of centrifugal pump produce?

DEPUMP answer:

Because the radial force of the centrifugal pump acts vertically on the pump shaft, the pump shaft will produce greater deflection (public number: pump housekeeper), and the rotating shaft is subjected to alternating load forces. The existence of directional force will fatigue and damage the pump shaft.

7: What harm will the existence of the axial force of the centrifugal pump have?

DEPUMP answer:

The existence of the axial force of the centrifugal pump will cause the wear of the ring, balance plate and impeller; the damage of the mechanical seal, bearings and motor.

8: In the design of centrifugal pumps, what measures have been taken to eliminate axial forces?

DEPUMP answer:

 Balance holes, balance disks, balance tubes, and balance drums are used;

(1) :  Double suction of impeller;

(2) :  Use thrust bearings;

(3) : Use the symmetrical arrangement of the impeller.
