Why is centrifugal pump most efficient?

This article will briefly explain the working principle of centrifugal pumps, allowing you to better understand how to use them efficiently.

 

Centrifugal pump is an automatic system composed of two main parts; Pump and electric motor. The key component of the centrifugal pump core is the impeller, which rapidly rotates around the axis during operation, applying centrifugal force to the fluid, allowing it to pass through the pump casing and reach the suction port. The impeller is made of highly corrosion-resistant cast iron with curved blades and protective plates. Usually, unless the pump system already has self-priming capability, the centrifugal impeller always needs to be completely submerged in water to start during operation.

 

Due to the use of a rotating impeller system and working under low/medium pressure heads, centrifugal pumps operate differently from many other pumps that typically belong to the category of positive displacement pumps. These pump types typically use diaphragm pump systems or reciprocating designs to transport fluids.

 

Centrifugal pumps are highly versatile pump systems widely used in many industries for home and commercial applications, as they are capable of moving more fluids than any other pump type on the market. They come in many different shapes, colors, sizes, and materials, including sanitary, industrial, and ATEX execution.

How does a centrifugal pump work?

 

The basic working principle of any centrifugal pump is that the fluid enters the pump inlet, flows towards the impeller shaft and rotates exponentially along the impeller blades inside the pump casing, and then discharges the fluid to the discharge side. Then repeat this operation to direct more fluid through the pump inlet for precise, controlled, and repeatable operation.

There are usually three different types of impellers that can be used for different applications, namely open, semi open, and closed impeller pump types.
